Summary

The Richmond Flying Squirrels overcame a 9-1 deficit to beat the Akron RubberDucks 13-12 on Tuesday night at 7 17 Credit Union Park.

Turning Point

Richmond capped the comeback in the ninth. A sac-fly by Sabin Ceballos got the scoring going for the Flying Squirrels before Maui Ahuna tied the game with an RBI single and Jancel Villarroel singled home the go-ahead run.

Mound Presence

Ryan Degges allowed five runs (three earned) over 3.2 innings while striking out four in his start. Zach Jacobs and Adam Tulloch combined to allow five runs over 2.2 innings. Dylan DeLucia allowed three unearned runs over 2.1 innings. Jay Driver got the final out of the ninth.

Duck Tales

Akron jumped ahead with a huge second inning. Akron sent 14 men to the plate and scored nine runs in the inning highlighted by two different RBI singles by Bennett Thompson and a grand slam by Jace LaViolette. Akron got another run in the fourth on a solo home run to dead center by Aaron Walton to make it 10-6 Akron. The RubberDucks added two more in the fifth on an RBI fielder’s choice by Ryan Cesarini and a bases loaded walk by Dean Curley to make it 12-6 Akron.

LaViolette’s grand slam is the eighth by the RubberDucks this season which is tied with Somerset for most in the Eastern League…Chourio and Mooney each stole a base to remained tied for the team lead with 28…Eight of Akron’s nine batters scored a run and six of the nine recorded a hit…Game Time: 4:00…Attendance: 1,685.
