BUFFALO, NY – The Buffalo Bisons (65-71/30-31) scored seven times in the bottom of the 7th inning to erase a six-run deficit as the Worcester Red Sox (70-62/34-27) dropped the series finale 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Sahlen Field. With the loss the WooSox missed out on a chance to complete their third sweep of the season and sit at 4-1 through the first five games of their 11-game roadtrip.

For the fifth straight time in the series, the WooSox jumped ahead in the top of the 1st inning. Franklin Arias got the frame started with a single to left and advanced to second base when Anthony Seigler drew a walk. Romy Gonzalez and Kristian Campbell then followed with back-to-back singles to drive in runs giving the WooSox a 2-0 lead.

After a Jay Harry solo home run for the Bisons cut the Worcester lead in half, the WooSox offense came back with a three-run top of the 2nd. With Nathan Hickey at second base with one out after a leadoff double, Braiden Ward and Arias hit back-to-back two-baggers to score a pair of runs increasing the WooSox advantage to 4-1. With Arias at third base and one out after a throwing error, Seigler lifted a sacrifice fly to center field to make it 5-1.

The WooSox tacked on two more runs in the 4th on two-out RBI hits by Gonzalez (a single) and Campbell (a double) to increase the Worcester advantage to 7-1.

The score remained 7-1 until the bottom of the 7th inning when Buffalo sent 11 hitters to the plate and exploded for seven runs to take their first lead of the day. Ismael Munguia got the inning started with a single to right center off WooSox reliever Angel Bastardo, and Lenyn Sosa followed with a two-run homer to left center field to cut the Worcester lead to 7-3. After a groundout, CJ Stubbs worked a walk and back-to-back singles by Rhylan Thomas and Harry loaded the bases. New WooSox pitcher Tyler Samaniego got Yohendrick Piñango to pop out, but Nick Goodwin followed with a two-run single to right field to make it 7-5. A walk to Davis Schneider loaded the bases, and Munguia capped off the rally with a three-run double to right center field to give Buffalo its first lead of the game, 8-7.

The WooSox got a one-out single by Arias in the top of the 8th and Vinny Capra drew a two-out walk in the 9th, but Bisons relievers Chad Dallas and Brendan Cellucci ultimately posted scoreless frames to end the ballgame.

Buffalo right-hander Daniel Guerra (1-0) picked up the win with a scoreless 7th inning, while Samaniego (3-2) suffered the loss allowing two runs on three hits while recording just two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning. Cellucci’s scoreless 9th represented his first save of the season.

After winning four of the five games in Buffalo, the WooSox continue their two-week roadtrip on Tuesday night in Allentown, PA with the series opener against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 pm from Coca-Cola Park, and radio pregame coverage begins at 6:25 pm on the WooSox Radio Network.
