We Care Wednesday

We Care Wednesday on Wednesday, July 1st

Salt City Roller Derby is the first and only flat-track roller derby league in Syracuse, NY. We are a skater and volunteer-led 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2007 as Assault City Roller Derby. We embraced our salty side and rebranded as Salt City Roller Derby in 2019. Our skaters, volunteers, and officials are a diverse and supportive group of individuals from all walks of life dedicated to the sport of roller derby. Modern roller derby is real, full-contact, and hard-hitting: nothing you see on the track is staged or scripted.

We have been at the Syracuse Airport for 18 years. We provide hospitality and assistance to military personnel, their families, and veterans traveling through the airport. We are similar to a USO, but we are a local nonprofit organization.

Papi's Champs is a charitable organization inspired by the spirit, love and loyalty of Jack Matson, who always wanted to give every child the chance to play. We work to promote, advance, and sponsor youth participation in recreational sports. To date, we have contributed more than $60,000 towards participation in youth sports for low-income and economically disadvantaged youth, as well as in financial support to cover the cost of sports equipment and registration fees associated with team, league and competition participation. We do this with the purpose of promoting character development and life enhancing values by creating opportunities for such youth to participate in recreational sports.

The mission of the Donor Family Network is to help organ and tissue donor families that say “yes” to life after death through mutual support and understanding and to educate the public about organ and tissue donation while working with our local transplant recipients Team Finger Lakes. We are all working towards a goal to educate the public about organ, eye and tissue donation and the lives it saves while helping donor families at the very worst time of their lives see the impact their loved one has made in the lives of others.

We are a foster care agency that services and supports Onondaga and surrounding counties. We have over 100 children in our program and the need for foster homes keeps growing.

2026 marks our 24th season of offering free public performances of Shakepeare's plays in Thornden Park.
