Amarillo Rallies Late for 6-2 Victory Over Missions

AMARILLO (September 9, 2026) — The Amarillo Sod Poodles used a five-run eighth inning to overcome a late deficit and earned a 6-2 victory on Wednesday night at Hodgetown.
20-year-old Abraham Parra turned in a brilliant start for San Antonio. The right-hander tossed five scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and striking out five.
Both teams were held scoreless in the contest until the sixth inning, when the Missions opened the scoring. Tirso Ornelas and Romeo Sanabria each notched a pair of singles. Luis Verdugo later grounded into a double play, but allowed Ornelas to score and put San Antonio in front 1-0.
The Sod Poodles tied it in the bottom of the sixth on a solo home run by Angel Ortiz.
San Antonio took the lead right back in the seventh. Oswaldo Linares ripped his first Double-A home run to left, making it 2-1 Missions.
The Missions took that 2-1 lead into the eighth, when Amarillo scored five runs. Amarillo loaded the bases with two walks and a hit batter. Angel Ortiz drove in two with a two-run single, and a throwing error on a stolen base attempt yielded three runs and made it 4-2 Sod Poodles. Ben McLaughlin’s two-run blast extended the Amarillo lead to 6-2.
In the ninth, San Antonio brought two on base but were held scoreless. Sawyer Hawks closed out the 6-2 victory for Amarillo.
The Missions are now 6-14 against Amarillo this season.
