Pop-Up Baseball, launched by the Nashville Sounds in 2017, introduces children in Music City to the idea that anyone can play baseball—no field required! Sounds staff and their mascot, Booster, “pop up” at local elementary schools equipped with just the basics: bases, balls, and bats. With Pop-Up Baseball, that’s all you need to play the game!
Each previously selected school or summer camp will receive their very own backyard baseball set! Sounds staff will take on roles as coaches, umpires, pitchers, and scorekeepers. Children unable to play will join the “hype crew,” creating signs and cheering on their peers throughout the game.
Developing Life Skills
Baseball teaches essential life skills such as teamwork, discipline, communication, and perseverance, which can benefit children beyond the field.
Introducing New Opportunities
For many inner-city kids, pop-up baseball clinics may be their first exposure to the sport, potentially sparking long-term interest and opening doors to future opportunities in youth leagues, school teams, or mentorship programs.
Hosting these clinics helps level the playing field and ensures that all children, regardless of where they live, have the chance to experience the joy and benefits of baseball.
