Four Homers Power 9-7 Sea Dogs Win

Bowie, MD – The Portland Sea Dogs (32-31)(67-64) took a big lead early and held on late for a 9-7 win against the Chesapeake Baysox (34-28)(63-67) on Sunday afternoon, securing a series tie.

The Sea Dogs hit four home runs in a game for the fifth time this season. Henry Godbout launched his Eastern League-leading fourth home run of the week. Godbout was three-for five with two runs scored. Tyler McDonough added a three-run shot in the fourth inning before Will Turner and Max Ferguson went back-to-back in the fifth.

Godbout’s home run started the scoring in the top of the second inning. In the bottom half, the Baysox got two runners on base before Anderson De Los Santos drove in both with a looping single.

Chesapeake extended their lead in the third inning with a Vance Honeycutt solo home run.

Trailing by two in the fourth, Turner reached on an error and Caden Rose walked. McDonough cleared the bases and sent the Sea Dogs into the lead 4-3 with one swing of the bat, a three-run home run.

The Sea Dogs did well against RHP Richard Guasch in the fifth. Johanfran Garcia walked and Ronald Rosario singled. Both runners advanced on a Godbout flyout. With Mason White at the plate, Guasch balked and Garcia scored.

With Rosario on base, Turner blasted a two-run home run to right-center field. Ferguson made it back-to-back and the Sea Dogs led 8-3.

The Baysox found life in the bottom of the sixth inning. Honeycutt singled, stole second, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. He scored when Ethan Anderson singled. Two batters later, Victor Figueroa blasted a two-run home run to cut the Sea Dogs’ lead to 8-6.

In the bottom of the eighth, Tavin Josenberger singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Anderson De Los Santos reached as an error on McDonough at third base allowed Josenberger to score.

Portland added an insurance run in the top of the ninth. Godbout singled, his third hit of the day, and Mason White walked. Both advanced on a wild pitch. Ball four to Will Turner was another wild pitch moments later, and Godbout scored, extending the lead to 9-7.

RHP Max Carlson (6-2, 4.31 ERA) earned the win, allowing one run on one hit, a solo home run, with four strikeouts in 3.0 innings pitched. RHP Alex Pham (0-3, 2.75 ERA) was tagged with the loss, allowing three runs on one hit, the McDonough home run, in 1.0 innings pitched. LHP
