Iowa Walks Off Omaha 7-6
DES MOINES, IOWA – The Iowa Cubs (24-30/54-72) walked off the Omaha Storm Chasers (25-27/58-68) on Thursday night 7-6. The Storm Chasers overcame a 5-run deficit, but Omaha couldn’t hold on to a late lead in the 1-run loss. The Cubs got on the board first, scoring 3 runs off
DES MOINES, IOWA – The Iowa Cubs (24-30/54-72) walked off the Omaha Storm Chasers (25-27/58-68) on Thursday night 7-6. The Storm Chasers overcame a 5-run deficit, but Omaha couldn’t hold on to a late lead in the 1-run loss.
The Cubs got on the board first, scoring 3 runs off Storm Chasers starter Henry Williams in the bottom of the 2nd inning on an RBI single and 2-run single.
Williams came back with back-to-back scoreless frames in the 3rd and 4th innings, but gave up 2 more runs in the bottom of the 5th inning on an RBI single and RBI double, extending Iowa’s lead to 5-0. Ryan Ramsey took over for Williams with a runner on second and two outs, striking out the first batter he saw to finish the frame.
The Storm Chasers stormed back in the 6th inning with 5 runs to tie the game 5-5, starting with a wild pitch that allowed Brett Squires to cross home. Omaha added 2 more on a fielding error that plated Abraham Toro and Peyton Wilson, then Elih Marrero capped off the scoring with a game-tying 2-run double.
Ramsey returned to the mound with a scoreless bottom of the 6th inning then Easton McGee fired a perfect bottom of the 7th inning to keep the game tied.
In the top of the 8th inning, the Storm Chasers took a 6-5 lead on Carson Roccaforte’s RBI single, then Carlos Duran kept the lead by blanking the Cubs in the bottom half.
Omaha turned to Nolan Hoffman (0-1) for the bottom of the 9th inning, but he put runners on second and third before giving up the walk-off 2-run double to finish the 7-6 loss.
The Storm Chasers will return to Principal Park for the 4th game of the series against the Cubs on Friday. First pitch is set for 7:08 P.M. CT and Hunter Patteson is scheduled to start for Omaha.
