Minor League Baseball names 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® winners

NEW YORK -- Minor League Baseball™ and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc., today announced the nine recipients of the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® for defensive excellence. NEW YORK -- Minor League Baseball™ and Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc., today announced the nine recipients of the 2022 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® for defensive excellence. The announcement was made during XXXXXXX 2022 Defensive Awards.

The winners at each position were selected from players in the 11 full-season Minor Leagues. Each player will receive his own Rawlings Gold Glove Award, modeled after the iconic award given to Major League Baseball’s top defensive players, during the 2023 season.

The 2022 Minor League Baseball recipients of the Rawlings Gold Glove Award® are as follows:

Free agent first baseman Josh Lester, who also made appearances at second base, third base and the outfield, handled 857 total chances in 104 games at first with Triple-A Toledo, posting 780 putouts and 74 assists. The 28-year-old was Detroit's 13th-round pick in the 2015 Draft out of the University of Missouri and made his big league debut for the Tigers this past season.

High-A Greenville Drive (Red Sox) second baseman Nick Yorke appeared in 68 games in 2022 and handled 296 of 297 chances flawlessly and helped 36 doubles for the Drive. The No. 4 Red Sox prospect was the 17th overall selection in the 2020 Draft out of Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, Calif.

Triple-A Nashville Sounds (Brewers) shortstop Brice Turang handled 421 total chances, helped turn 52 double plays and finished with 271 assists and 139 putouts in 104 games at shortstop. The 22-year-old, Milwaukee's No. 4 prospect, was the 21st overall selection out of Santiago High School in Corona, Calif. in 2018.

Double-A Hartford Yard Goats (Rockies) third baseman Aaron Schunk compiled 165 assists, 89 Band handled 267 total chances at the hot corner for the Yard Goats. The No. 26 Rockies prospect, who was a second-round Draft pick out of the University of Georgia in 2019, helped turn 18 double plays across 112 games in 2022.

Triple-A Nashville Sounds (Brewers) outfielder Sal Frelick handled 213 total chances and amassed eight assists in 108 games in the outfield across three Minor League levels. Baseball's No. 46 overall prospect was selected 15th overall in the 2021 Draft out of Boston College.

Double-A Montgomery Biscuits (Rays) outfielder Kameron Misner recorded 10 outfield assists, 237 putouts and handled 249 total chances in 112 games for Montgomery. The 19th-ranked Rays prospect was taken by the Marlins with the 35th overall pick in the 2019 Draft out of the University of Missouri.

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll recorded nine outfield assists and 189 putouts despite appearing in just 79 games with Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno. Baseball's No. 3 overall prospect spent the last five weeks of the 2022 campaign in the Majors. Carroll, 22, was Arizona's first-round selection in 2019 out of Lakeside High School in Seattle.

High-A Eugene Emeralds (Giants) catcher Patrick Bailey handled 833 total chances in 606 2/3 innings in 72 games behind the plate. The No. 12 Giants prospect, who was the 13th overall pick out of North Carolina State in the 2021 Draft, caught 29.9 percent of baserunners attempting to steal.

Double-A Somerset Patriots (Yankees) right-hander Will Warren handled 30 total chances and tallied six assists in 129 innings for High-A Hudson Valley and Somerset. The No. 8 Yankees prospect was selected in the eighth round of the 2021 Draft out of Southeastern Louisiana University.
