Decisive Plays: Pensacola took the lead on a wild pitch in the third inning. The Wahoos' lead held into the seventh inning, when Dixon Williams tied the game with a solo home run (2). Max Williams blasted Pensacola in front in the ninth with a solo home run, but Alex Lodise tied the game with a solo home run (2) of his own in the bottom of the ninth. Pensacola scored six times in the 10th, including a two-run double from Aiva Arquette. Down 8-2, John Gil crushed a grand slam home run (2) to give the Clingstones life in the bottom of the 10th inning. Eric Hartman got on base after a hit by pitch to bring the tying run to the plate, but Lodise grounded into a game-ending double play.
Key Contributors: Lodise (2-for-5, 2B, HR, RBI), Williams (1-for-3, HR, RBI), and Gil (1-for-5, HR, 4 RBI) each had their moment to help Columbus try to rally back on offense while Drue Hackenberg (8.0 IP, 3 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 SO) was tremendous on the mound. For Pensacola, Williams (2-for-5, HR, 2 RBI) homered in his first Double-A game while Arquette (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBi) provided two key insurance runs in the 10th inning.
Notable: Columbus saw its five-game win streak snapped and fell to 4-8 in extra-inning games. Columbus hit three home runs to push the season total to 148 home runs, surpassing the 1997 Greenville Braves for the most single-season home runs by an Atlanta Braves' Double-A affiliate. Gil powered the Clingstones' fourth grand slam of the season and the second this week. Hackenberg posted a career-best 8.0 innings and reached 7.0 innings for the first time since July 21, 2024 at Pensacola.
