Fireflies 2026 Finale Wiped Out Due to Rain

Start will not count and the game will not be made up

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Fireflies season finale with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans has been canceled due to inclement weather. The start of the game will not count towards records and the game will not be made up. Prior to the tarp coming on the field, the Fireflies and Pelicans

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Columbia Fireflies season finale with the Myrtle Beach Pelicans has been canceled due to inclement weather. The start of the game will not count towards records and the game will not be made up.

Prior to the tarp coming on the field, the Fireflies and Pelicans played two-and-a-half unofficial innings. The game was tied 1-1 at the break.

JC Vanek opened the scoring in the first inning after being hit by a pitch, stealing second and advancing to third on a pitcher's disengagement violation. A wild pitch then allowed Vanek to score and give Columbia an early 1-0 lead.

Myrtle Beach answered in the bottom of the second. Jhoander Irigoyen singled before Alexis Herandez followed with a double that rolled to the right-center field wall, bringing Irigoyen home to tie the game 1-1.

Jose Gutierrez struck out a pair of batters in the first inning, which would have given him 100 punchouts on the 2026 season. He’s the third member of the Fireflies to notch that mark this season, joining Michael Lombardi and Darwin Rodriguez.
