CHARLOTTE, NC – The Charlotte community came together at Truist Field on Friday night. Knights fans and First Responders paid tribute to the victims of September 11, 2001, and were treated to a great ballgame from start to finish that the Knights won 2-1.

The emotions were felt by everyone in attendance throughout the evening. On the field, it was Charlotte’s starting pitcher Shane Murphy who stepped into the spotlight. Murphy retired the first 11 batters he faced and carried his team through seven innings overall.

Joey Wiemer provided the offense when he took Buffalo Bisons’ starting pitcher, C.J. Van Eyk, deep for a two-run homer in the bottom of the second inning. Those were the only runs Charlotte needed behind Murphy and reliver Aidan Anderson.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Knights called upon Anderson and the righty delivered a six-out save. Murphy’s only blemish was a solo Home Run allowed in the sixth inning.

Tim Elko and Jason Matthews joined Wiemer in the hit department who finished the ballgame 2-for-3, including his round-tripper.

The victory gave Charlotte their seventh win in ten games against Buffalo this season and ensured a series split with two games left to play. Both contests will take place on Saturday as part of a day-night double-header. The first contest is set for 12:35pm ET while the evening matchup will begin at 5:35pm ET.
