Curve Plate Five in Extras, Earn 12-7 Win

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Keiner Delgado slugged a three-run homer and Murf Gray picked up three hits in Altoona’s 12-7 win in extra innings on Thursday night at FNB Field in Harrisburg.

After Harrisburg tied the game in the eighth inning on an RBI single from Devin Fitz-Gerald, Altoona sent the game to extras with a quick ninth inning from Aaron Shortridge.

In the top of the tenth, Altoona scored runs on a throwing error, a wild pitch and another on a sacrifice fly from Delgado before Gray put the game away with a two-run single. Harrisburg committed three errors in the frame, leading to four unearned runs.

The Curve broke out for five runs in the third inning against former future Curve lefty Josh Hartle. The former Pirates draft selection had allowed just one unearned run in 13.0 innings against the Curve until the third inning on Thursday night. Altoona used bunt hits from Matt King and Jesus Castillo to get a run homer after Will Taylor reached on an infield single to start the inning. Keiner Delgado slugged a three-run homer after Castillo’s sacrifice bunt that brought a run home on a throwing error by Harrisburg 3B Kervin Pichardo. The Curve sent nine men to the plate in the inning and plated a fifth run on a double play ball.

Dominic Pipkin started for Altoona and was touched for two runs in 3.0 innings before handing the ball off to Po-Yu Chen. Chen allowed four runs in the fifth to allow Harrisburg to take the lead. The Curve re-took the lead in the seventh inning on a two-run single from Lonnie White Jr.

Harrisburg tied the game in the eighth with a run against righty Tyler Owens. Owens, who was with Erie until August 18, struck out one batter in his team debut.

Shortridge set down all six hitters he faced to earn the win, his third of the season.

Altoona picked up ten hits in the win, led by multi-hit efforts from Matt King and Gray.

Altoona continues their series with Harrisburg on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. RHP Peyton Stumbo starts for the Curve with RHP Yoel Tejeda Jr. slated for the Senators.
